4 Great Ways To Take Care Of Your Car This Spring

Posted on

Spring is not only a great time of year to take care of your house, but it is also a great time to check up and take care of your vehicle. Here are four things you should do this spring in order to ensure that your vehicle is in excellent working order.

#1 Change Out Your Windshield Wiper Blades

The first thing that you need to do is change out your windshield wiper blades. This is an often overlooked component on most vehicles; many people just assume that their windshield wipers will always work. In fact, the rubber on your windshield wipers gets worn down and dirty over time. You should change out your windshield wipers at least once a year, although twice year is an even better option. Change out your windshield wipers in the spring and fall, so that you have strong wipers during summer and winter storms.

#2 Install A New Air Filter

You should install a new air filter in your vehicle just about as often as you get your oil changed. Your air filter can quickly fill up with dirt and dust, especially if you use the heater or air conditioning in your vehicle. It is a good idea to change out the air filter when you get your oil changes; that way, you can ensure that the air you breath is always clean and you can reduce the stress on your vehicle's HVAC system.

#3 Wax Your Vehicle

After a long winter, it is a good idea to give the outside of your vehicle a little care and attention. Wash your vehicle thoroughly, staring at the top and working your way to the bottom. Be sure to open the car doors and clean around the frames; dirt easily builds up in these areas as well. Also, make sure that you clean your rims and tire wells really well; these areas tend to get really dirty and can be tricky to see the dirt from all angles.

Once you have thoroughly cleaned your vehicle, apply a coat of wax to your entire vehicle. This will help protect your paint job from the summer heat and from fading and getting damaged over time.

#4 Check All Belts For Wear

Finally, spring is a great time to check all of the belts on your vehicle. This is a good time to make sure that none of your belts have wakened or worn out during the cold winter months. If any of your vehicle's belts are weak or thin, have them changed out before they snap and break while you are driving.
